Direct high speed trains between Guangzhou and Shantou have been launched since 2018, city center to city center using Guangzhou East Train Station (GuangzhouDong) and Shantou Railway Station.
From Guangzhou to Shantou: 6 daily D-class high speed trains leaves from the centrally-located Guangzhou East Station and arrive at the Shantou Railway Station in city center of Shantou City. Journey time ranges from 3h33 to 3h50 and ticket fare is CNY188.5 for a second class seat. Besides, there is one G-class train G6341 going from Guangzhou South Station (Guangzhounan), arriving at Shantou Station, taking just 2h55.
From Shantou to Guangzhou: All the direct high speed trains run from Shantou Railway Station and arrive at Guangzhou East Station.

2: Guangzhou – Chaoshan – Shantou by Bullet Train, More Trains
You can find more trains if you travel on this route: Guangzhou – Chaoshan – Shantou by making a connection at Chaoshan Railway Station. Chaoshan Railway Station is a hgih speed station serving the cities of Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang in Eastern Guangdong Province, and linked by local public buses.
From Guangzhou to Shantou via Chaoshan: There are 12 G-class high speed trains from Guangzhou South to Chaoshan Station, and 11 D-class high speed trains from the centrally-located Guangzhou East Station to Chaoshan Station. After arriving at Chaoshan Station, just connect to a high speed train to Shantou Station in city center, 14 trains dail & 25 mins & from CNY10.

Option 3: Guangzhou – Chaoshan – Chaozhou
Guangzhou has no direct high speed trains to or from Chaozhou. But you can go to Chaoshan Railway Station from Guangzhou South Station or Guangzhou East Station first, then take a bus from Chaoshan Railway Station to central Chaozhou.
