Beijing – Pingyao by Bullet Train, Sleeper Train or Connecting Train

There are three ways to travel from Beijing to Pingyao by train and reverse:

Three high speed trains and three normal trains run daily between Beijing and Pingyao. Taking a direct high speed train is the most straforward and convenient way to travel between Beijing and Pingyao, and taking an overnight sleeper train is an economical way to save you the cost of an accommodation, while taking a connecting train (Beijing – Taiyuan – Pingyao) is a flexible way to go in peak season when the direct high speed train sell out. How long is from Beijing to Pingyao by train: the travel time is 4 hours and 10 minutes by direct high speed train, over 10 hours by overnight train.

Ticket Booking Tips

The Beijing – Pingyao route is hot and train tickets often sell out quickly. You’d better buy tickets in advance online or at station (60 days or less ahead of departure).

Direct High Speed Trains

Travelling between Beijing and Pingyao by direct high speed train have been available since July 2014 when Pingyao Gucheng Railway Station began operation. The direct high speed train here means you don’t have to change a train along the journey. Currently, there are 3 daily high speed train service between Beijing and Pingyao.

Beijing West (BeijingXi): Located in Fengtai District of Beijing, reached by metro line 7 and line 9.

Pingyao Gucheng (or Pingyao Acient City station):the newly-built train station in Pingyao (the old one is Pingyao Railway Station). Read the page: Pingyao Gucheng Page.

Connecting Train: Beijing – Taiyuan – Pingyao

Taking a connecting train is a flexible way to travel from Beijing to Pingyao via Taiyuan or reverse, because only 3 daily direct train are available between Beijing – Pingyao, and the route is quite popular and tickets often sell out quickly. While, there are more high speed trains between Beijing West – Taiyuan South (17 trains daily), and Taiyuan South – Pingyao Gucheng (16 trains daily). All you need to do is to take a high speed train from Beijing West to Taiyuan South first, then a connecting train to Pingyao Gucheng.

For example: A G603 (07:23 – 10:28) from Beijing West to Taiyuan South first, then catch D5307 (11:13 – 11:53) to Pingyao Gucheng (see details below).

Normal Trains: Sleeper, Overnight Train

There three pair K type trains running between Beijing and Pingyao and using Pingyao Railway Station and Beijing Railway Station (Main). All of them are overnight trains with sleeper car. They are comfortable and air-conditioned, which will save you money.

Beijing Railway Station: located in Dongcheng District, reached by metro line 2 (at Beijing Zhan, 北京站).
