Step 1: Zhangjiajie West – Changsha Station by High Speed Train
Zhangjiajie West Railway Station (ZhangjiajieXi) is a newly opened train station in north of Zhangjiajie, which has about over 20 C category high speed trains running between Changsha Railway Station and Zhangjiajie West Railway Station (Zhangjiajiexi), journey time is 2h40-3h30. The high speed trains are arriving at Changsha Railway Station, not Changsha South (Changshanan).

Step 2: Changsha Station – Changsha South by Metro Line 2
From Changsha Railway Station: After your high speed train from Zhangjiajie West arrive at Changsha Railway Station, you just exit the train station and find the metro line 2 from Jintai Square Station (just 20m from train station)to Changsha South Railway Station. The bullet trains to Shanghai are departing from Changsha South. But if you want to fly to Shanghai, you can get from Changsha South to Airport by Maglev Express in 20-30m to catch your flight.
From Changsha South: If you are going from Changsha South to Changsha Railway Statin by metro, and want to catch the high speed train from Changsha Railway Station to Zhangjiajie West, you can take the metro line 2 from South Railway Station to Railway Station. But Jack would recommend you to get off at Jintai Square (South Railway Station to Jintai Square) and exit station through EXIT 4, which is just 20 meters from the station. If you get off at Railway Station, you will have to walk about 10 minutes to get the the platforms for high speed trains to Zhangjiajie West.
There are two station buildings in Changsha Railway Station, one is for high speed trains (near Jintai Square)and the other one is for normal trains (near Railway Station stop).

Step 3: Changsha South – Shanghai Hongqiao by Bullet Train

As Changsha is very far from Shanghai, the bullet trains will take about 5.5 – 6 hours to finish the journey, and the ticket far is also high. But the high speed trains are punctual, comformtable, departing or arriving at urban area. You can also consider flying.
Step 4 Zhangjiajie West – Wulingyuan Forest Park by Bus
Your trip to Zhangjiajie is not completed without a visit to Wulingyuan National Forest Park. But many travelers don’t know how to travel between Wulingyuan Park and Zhangjiajie West Station. Jack did this trip in August, 2020. So I will share my experience.
There are bus linking Zhangjiajie High Speed Rail Bus Terminal (next to Zhangjiajie West) and Wulingyuan Bus Station in just 40 minutes, and the ticket fare is CNY 13. The last bus departs at 18:00. You will find bus terminal is located on the right side when you exit Zhangjiajie West Station. The bus departs when full.
