Starting on June 16, there is one direct train linking Hong Kong and Zhangjiajie: G6080 from HK West Kowloon to Zhangjiajie West Station, and G6079 from Zhangjiajie West to HK West Kowloon. Besides, travellers can also make a transfer at Changsha, or Guangzhou or Shenzhen, which offer you more trains.

- Route 2: Hong Kong West Kowloon – Guangzhou South – Zhangjiajie West
- Route 3: Hong Kong West Kowloon – Shenzhen North – Zhangjiajie West

As of the latest information available, there is now a direct high-speed train service (G6080 / G6079) between Hong Kong and Zhangjiajie. This service was initiated on June 13, 2024, as part of an adjustment in the train operation schedule for the Q3 season. The new direct high-speed train route operates between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Zhangjiajie West Station
One pair of trains will operate daily along this route, departing from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Zhangjiajie West Station respectively. The specific train numbers and times are as follows:
- Towards Zhangjiajie West (G6080): Departing Hong Kong West Kowloon Station at 08:30, arriving at Zhangjiajie West Station at 14:52.
- Towards Hong Kong West Kowloon Station (G6079): Departing Zhangjiajie West Station at 15:20, arriving at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station at 21:50.
The route is as follows: Hong Kong West Kowloon – Shenzhenbei – Humen – Guangzhounan – Chenzhouxi^ – Hengyangdong – Shaoyang* – Dongkou* – Huaihuanan* – Fenghuanggucheng* – Jishoudong* – Zhangjiajiexi*

Guangzhou South Railway Station (Guangzhounan) is an ideal transfer point for going to Zhangjiajie from Hong Kong. So, the best route is Hong Kong West Kowloon – Guangzhou South – Zhangjiajie West. Shenzhen North is another ideal train station for making a transfer to Zhangjiajie from Hong Kong (Hong Kong West Kowloon – Shenzhen North – Zhangjiajie West). Also, you need to allow 40 minutes for changing your train in Shenzhen North.

4: Hong Kong – Changsha – Zhangjiajie by high speed train
The third route is to go via Changsha. Just be noted that both Changsha South Station and Changsha Railway Station have trains to or from Zhangjiajie West (ZhangjiajieXi). If you are departing from Hong Kong to Zhangjiajie, the trains are arriving at Changsha South (Changshanan).

Zhangjiajie West Station to Wulingyuan Park
On arrival at Zhangjiajiexi Railway Station, you have the option of taking the public bus to Wulingyuan Forest Park. This bus will depart when full with a fare of ¥13 per person. The first bus departs at 08:30 AM, and the last one at 5:00 PM. Alternatively, you could take a taxi to Wulingyuan Park, which would take around 30 minutes.

Zhangjiajie West Station to Tianmenshan
On arrival at Zhangjiajiexi Railway Station, you can either take a taxi to Tianmenshan Mountain (approximately 18 minutes drive) or take Bus 17 to Wuling Mountain Treasure Museum Station.
Zhangjiajie High-Speed Rail Bus Terminal
Zhangjiajie High-Speed Rail Bus Terminal (Chinese name: 张家界高铁汽车客运站), which is next to Zhangjiajie West Railway Station started service on May Day, 2020. It mainly serves as a comprehensive transport hub. It has bus services to or from Wulingyuan, Cili, Sangzhi, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzishan (Zhonghu), Jiangya, etc, which makes it convenient for travelers who arrive by bullet train at Zhangjiajie West Railway Station to catch a bus to different scenic areas. Meanwhile, travelers from different scenic areas can also take a bus to Zhangjiajie High-Speed Rail Terminal and walk to Zhangjiajie West to catch your high-speed trains.
How long it time to go from Zhangjiajie to HK by bus plus high speed train?
Is it possible to start in the morning and to be in HK on the evening?
I think it is possible. You just need to catch a early bus from Zhangjiajie Bus Station to Lituo Bus Station near Changsha South Train Station, then catch the high speed train G79 from Changsha South at 15:41 to HK West Kowloon at 18:58. Or you may consider making a transfer at Guangzhou South, which has lots of bullet trains to or from Changsha South and HK West Kowloon.
In conclusion, you can these two options:
1. Zhangjiajie to Changsha South (Lituo station) by bus, then direct bullet train to HK West Kowloon.
2. Zhangjiajie to Changsha South (Lituo station) by bus, then Changsha South to Guangzhou South to HK West Kowloon by high speed train (More trains with flexible schedule).
