How to travel between HK & Fenghuang by Train
There are no direct trains linking Hong Kong and Fenghuang yet, but you can still travel by train inbetween them by making a transfer in Guangzhou, or Shenzhen, or Huaihua, Changsha. Here, Jack has listed the best routes for you:
- Route 1: Fenghuang – Guangzhou – Hong Kong
- Route 2: Fenghuang – Changsha – Hong Kong
- Route 3: Fenghuang – Shenzhen – Hong Kong
1. Fenghuang – Hong Kong via Guangzhou

The best way to travel from Hong Kong to Fenghuang, or Fenghuang to Hong Kong is by high speed train via Guangzhou South (HK West Kowloon – Guangzhou South – Fenghuang).
Starting October 26, 2021 when the Zhangjiajie – Huaihua – Jishou – high speed rail opens, there will be high speed trains linking Guangzhou and Fenghuang, using Guangzhou South Railway Station (GuangzhouNan) and Fenghuang Gucheng Railway Station, taking 5 hours. But the trains won’t go to Hong Kong, you will have to connect to a high speed train to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station.
From Hong Kong to Fenghuang: Take one of the frequent high speed trains from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Guangzhou South first (see Hong Kong to Guangzhou trains), taking 1 hour. Then connect to a high speed train to Fenghuang Gucheng Railway Station, taking 5 hours. You just allow 30 minutes for changing your trains.
From Fenghuang to Hong Kong: Take the maglev train to Fenghuang Gucheng Railway Station first, from where there are high speed trains to Guangzhou South Railway Station, taking 5-5.5 hours. Then get connected to another high speed train to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, taking 1-1.5 hours.

Fenghuang Gucheng Railway Station
Fenghuang Gucheng Railway Station is still under construction and will open for service along with the openning of Zhangjiajie – Jishou – Huaihua High Speed Rail by the end of 2021. It is located near Fenghuang Ancient Town, and there will be medium-low speed maglev trains linking Fenghuang Railway Station with Fenghuang Ancient Town.

2. Hong Kong – Fenghuang via Changsha
Apart from going via Guangzhou, you can also going via Changsha on this route: Hong Kong – Changsha – Fenghuang.
From Hong Kong to Fenghuang: There are 4 daily high speed trains running from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Changsha South Railway Station, taking around 4 hours. Then just change to another train from Changsha South to Fenghuang Gucheng Railway Station, taking 3 hrs.
From Fenghuang to Hong Kong: Just take a high speed train from Fenghuang Gucheng Railway Station to Changsha South Railway Station, from where you catch one of the 4 daily high speed trains from Changsha South to Hong Kong West Kowloon Station. see Changsha to Hong Kong train.

3. Hong Kong – Fenghuang via Shenzhen
When the Fenghuang Railway Station opens on October 26, 2021, it will also introduce train services to or from Shenzhen, then it will be possible to travel to Fenghuang from Shenzhen by train.
Shenzhen is also linked with Hong Kong by high speed trains, so if you want to travel from Hong Kong to Fenghuang, just take a high speed train from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Shenzhen North Railway Station first, then a train from Shenzhen to Fenghuang Railway Station.
