Shuangliu Airport (CTU) – New Tianfu Airprot (TFU)
Chengdu’s new airport – Tianfu International Airport (TFU) will be opened in July of 2021, and all the international air services will be moved from Shuangliu Airport to Tianfu AIrport by then. The original Chengdu Shuangliu Airport will mainly operate domestic service, while new Chengdu Tianfu Airport will handle the international service. To travel between Shuangliu Airport and Tianfu Airport, the best way will be by high speed train plus metro service, just as explained below:
- Step 1: Shuangliu Airport to Chengdu South / Chengdu East by bullet train (Chengdu South is recommended)
- Step 2: Chengdu South / Chengdu East to Tianfu Airport by metro

Chengdu Shuangliu Airport has its own underground railway station – Shuangliu Airport Railway Station (showed as ShuangliuJichang station on www.12306.cn, Jichang = Airport), which serves as an airport rail link system for the airport and is linked to Terminal 2 of metro line 10. The airport railway station mainly operates intercity trains along the Chengdu – Mianyang – Leshan intercity railway with bullet trains to Chengdu South in 10 minutes, to Chengdu East in 15-20 minutes, and to Leshan in 40 mins and to Emeishan in 1 hour.
Most trains from Shuangliu Airport are arriving at Chengdu East with just 6 calling at Chengdu South, but Chengdu South is a better choice as it is linked directly with Tianfu Airport via metro line 18. If you’re arriving at Chengdu East, you will have to transfer.
From Shuangliu Airport to Tianfu Airport via Chengdu South: Only 6 daily high speed trains from Shuangliu Airport Railway Station (ShuangliuJichang) to Chengdu South Railway Station (Chengdunan) are available, giving a journey time of 10 minutes and ticket price from CNY8. From Chengdu South, you change to metro line 18 to get to new Tianfu Airport.
From Shuangliu Airport to Tianfu Airport via Chengdu East: Take one of the frequent bullet trains from Shuangliu Airport to Chengdu East (Chengdudong) first, then metro line 7 to Chengdu South, and again transfer from Chengdu South to Tianfu Airport by metro line 18.

Step 2. Chengdu – Tianfu Airport by Metro
Chengdu South – Tianfu Airport
If your train from Shuangliu Airport Railway Station arrives at Chengdu South (chengdunan), you can just change to take metro line 18 to get to Tianfu International Airport in 50 minutes or so.
Chengdu East – Tianfu Airport
If your train from Shuangliu Airport arrives at Chengdu East Station, just go to take metro line 7 to Chengdu South railway station, then change to line 18 to get to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport.
Future Development
A airport-airport metro link – Chengdu’s metro line 19 linking Chengdu Shuangliu Airport on Tianfu New Station and Chengdu Tianfu Airport on Terminal 2 Statjion is being built, and will be opened in 2022, allowing passengers to transport between the two airports by metro in 30 minutes.
