Getting from Shanghai to Putuoshan via Ningbo

Shanghai to Putuoshan Overland

As there is no direct trains running between Shanghai and Putuoshan, it requires you to make a transfer in Ningbo, plus a bus ride to Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Wharf, and a ferry to Putuoshan Island.

The trip from Shanghai to Putuoshan involves three main stages if you are travelling overland. The crucial point is that you need to make a transfer in Ningbo:

Stage 1: Shanghai to Ningbo by High-Speed Train

Departure Station

Firstly, you need to take a train from Shanghai to Ningbo. Most high-speed trains to Ningbo depart from Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.

Train Schedule and Duration

Stage 2: Ningbo to Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Port by Bus

Upon arrival at Ningbo Railway Station, follow the signs to Ningbo South Coach Terminal, which is located next to Ningbo Railway Station. It’s a short 5-minute walk (about 200 meters) from the train station.

From Ningbo South Coach Terminal, you can catch a bus to Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Wharf. The bus ride takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and costs 72 RMB per person. Buses operate from 05:50 to 18:20, with departures every 30 minutes to 1 hour.(All schedule, fares info are subject to changes)

Stage 3: Ferry from Zhujiajian to Putuoshan

Upon reaching Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Wharf, the final leg of your journey is a short ferry ride from Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Port to Putuoshan Island.
