The best way is by a direct bullet train. It has been possible to travel from Chongqing to Chengdu Airport or from Chengdu Airport to Chongqing by a direct high speed train without any transfer. G8754 train cnnects Chongqing North with Chengdu Shuangliu Airport in just 2h07m, while from Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, C6026 and G8756 runs from Shuangliu Airport (shuangliu jichang) to Shapingba Railway Station in Chongqing.
From Chongqing to Chengdu Airport: Only one direct train G8754 runs from Chongqing North at 11:40 and arrives at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (shuangliujichang) at 13:47. The travel time is 2h07 and you don’t need any transfer in Chengdu.
From Chengdu Airport to Chongqing: Two direct high speed trains (C6026 and G8756) are running directly from Chengdu Shuangliu Airport to Shapingba Railway Station in Chongqing. No need to make a transfer in Chengdu.

If you miss the direct trains, you can choose to make a transfer in Chengdu (Chongqing – Chengdu – Shuangliu Airport). There are 22 daily high speed trains are linking Chengdu and Shuangliu Airport Railway Station (shuangliu jichang), but 20 /22 of them are using Chengdu East Railway Station with only 2 are using Chengdu South Railway Station. So Chengdu East is your best choice.
Chongqing – Chengdu – Shuangliu Airport: Just take one of the frequent high speed train from Chongqing North / Chongqing West / Shapingba Railway Station to Chengdu East in just 1.5 – 2 hours, then transfer to a connecting bullet train to Shuangliu Airport Railway Station in just 20 minutes.
Shuangliu Airport – Chengdu – Chongqing: When your flight is landing in Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, just find the high speed train from Shuangliu Airport Railway Station to Chengdu East Railway Station (21 trains daily), then a connecting high speed train from Chengdu East to Chongqing North / Chongqing West / Shapingba. Don’t use the Chengdu South.
