Huangshan’s East Gate (东大门) opened on June 11, 2026, and it’s the best way to skip the notorious South Gate queues. If you’re arriving by high-speed train at Huangshan North Station (黄山北站), here’s exactly how to get to the East Gate — schedules, tickets, and what to expect.
Where to Catch the Bus
The bus departs from the **Huangshan Tourism Passenger Transport Center (黄山旅游客运中心)**, which is right next to Huangshan North Station. After exiting the train station:
- Turn right out of the station exit — the transport center is about 150 meters away, a 2-minute walk
- Look for the building marked “黄山旅游客运中心” — it’s the hub for all scenic area buses
- The bus you want is the East Gate Tourist Line (东大门旅游专线), destination: East Gate Tourist Center (东大门游客中心)

Practical Tips
- Match your train to the bus: If your train arrives at Huangshan North at 10:00, you can catch the 10:40 bus. But if you arrive at 10:50, you’ll wait until 11:10 — or nearly an hour for 12:10. Book your train ticket with the bus schedule in mind.
- Book the bus in advance: Opening-week demand is unpredictable. Buy your bus ticket online when you book your train — especially for the first morning departures (7:10 and 9:10).
- If you miss the East Gate bus: Take the South Gate bus instead (30 RMB, departures every 30 minutes) and enter through the classic South Gate. It’s the backup plan.
- Ropeway last ride warning: The Donghai Ropeway closes at 17:10 (Mon–Fri) or 17:40 (weekends/holidays) during peak season. If you’re staying on the mountain and coming down the same day, you must be at the upper station well before closing. Miss it, and you’re walking down via a different gate — there’s no hiking trail on the East Gate side.
