How to Travel from Guangzhou & Shenzhen to Chongqing

The best way to travel from Guangzhou or Shenzhen to Chongqing is by high speed train, or flight. But train is far more better, which run on time, frequently and give you more comfortable riding experience with fairly cheap ticket price. While flights are fastest, but often delayed or cancelled due to Chinese air control or weather condition.

Be noted: The Shenzhen – Chongqing train route above does not mean the direct train from Shenzhen to Chongqing, but Shenzhen – Guangzhou – Chongqing route, which is faster & cheaper.

Guangzhou – Chongqing by High Speed Train

High speed trains linking Chongqing and Guangzhou have been available since January of 2018. Currently, there are 18 D class and 1 G class high speed trains running between Chongqing and Guangzhou. The 18 D class bullet trains link Guangzhou South and Chongqing West, going through Yangshuo, Guilin Sanjiang and Guiyang, etc, taking about 7.5-8 hours & costing from CNY 392.5. While the only one G class bullet train links Guangzhou South with Chongqing North, travelling on another route through Changsha, Wuhan, Yichang, etc, taking 11.5 hours & costing from CNY720, much longer and higher than the D trains.

So, you are recommended to take the D class high speed trains to travel from Guangzhou South to Chongqing West or vice verse.

Shenzhen – Chongqing by High Speed Train

Whilte it has a G class train G1312 / G1314 running between Shenzhen North Station and Chongqing North Station directly, it is not recommended to take this train as the G class train travel on a longer route (Shenzhen-Wuhan-Chongqing), taking about 12 hours and costing from CNY794.5.

The best route to travel between Shenzhen and Chongqing is to travel via Guangzhou, Guilin & Guiyang (Shenzhen – Guangzhou – Chongqing), which provides you more train options and save you money and travel time. It takes you about 9 hours and costs from CNY467.

From Shenzhen to Chongqing: First, take a high speed train from Shenzhen North Station or Futian Railway Station to Guangzhou South, then catch a D class from Guangzhou South to Chongqing West. Remember that don’t take the direct G class train (G1312).

From Chongqing to Shenzhen: Take a high speed train from Chongqing West to Guangzhou South first, then a connecting bullet train from Guangzhou South to Shenzhen (Shenzhen North or Futian Station). Once again, don’t take the G train (G1314), which takes longer and cost more.
