Kunming Railway Station (昆明火车站) is a major transportation hub located in the capital city of Yunnan Province in southwest China. It serves as an important transportation gateway for the province and a hub for trains heading to Sichuan, Guangxi and Guangdong Province.

The station also serves as a hub for the Kunming Metro, connecting passengers to metro lines 1 and 2. From the station, direct trains are available to a number of popular travel destinations, including Lijiang, Dali, Hekou, Jianshui, Yuxi, Xishuangbanna, Pu’er, Mohan in Yunnan Province, as well as major cities outside Yunnan like Chengdu, Chongqing, Nanning, Guangzhou, etc

Apart from Kunming Railway Station, the other one relatively new Kunming South Railway Station is also serving the City of Kunming, which serves more long-distance trains to cities outside Yunnan.

How to Get to Kunming Railway Station

Kunming Railway Station is located in Beijing Road in Guandu District in Kunming City with easy access. Passengers can get to the station via metro lines, public bus, and taxi services.

  • Metro: Kunming Railway Station is connected to the Kunming Metro system. Metro Line 1 and Line 2 both have stations at Kunming Railway Station.
  • Public buses: by public bus 23, 24, 25, 44, 83, Z33, etc.
  • Taxi: Taxis are available at Kunming Railway Station’s taxi stands. The fare generally starts at around 10 CNY for the first 3 kilometers and then increases based on the distance traveled. Additional fees, such as tolls or late-night charges, may also apply.

Kunming Railway Station to Changshui Airport

Kunming Changshui International Airport is about 28 km from Kunming Railway Station, and there are airport bus linking them directly, or passengers can also take metro by making a connection via metro line 2 and line 6.

By airport shuttle bus line 2: it takes about 1 hour from CNY 25.

By metro: Take metro line 2 from Kunming Railway Station to Tangzixiang Station first, then connect to line 6 to Airport Center (Jichang Zhongxin  机场中心), the whole journey takes over 1 hour.

Train stations in Kunming

There are two major train stations in Kunming: the old one is Kunming Railway Station and the new one is Kunming South Railway Station (Kunmingnan). Kunming Railway Station seves trains to major cities within Yunnan Province as well as a few destinations beyond Yunnan, such as Nanning, Guangzhou, Liuzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing. While Kunming South serves more trains to major cities outside Yunnan.
