How to Get from Hangzhou to Putuoshan via Ningbo

Introduction

Traveling from Hangzhou to Mount Putuoshan can be an enriching experience, but it requires a bit of planning, as there are no direct high-speed trains connecting the two destinations. You need to make a transfer in Ningbo. This trip can be managed with a combination of train, bus, and ferry services.

Step 1: Hangzhou to Ningbo by High-Speed Rail

Your journey begins at Hangzhou East Railway Station (杭州东站), the primary high-speed rail hub in Hangzhou.

There are 86 high-speed trains running daily from Hangzhou to Ningbo. The journey takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, and ticket prices start at 57 RMB. Trains are frequent, so you will have plenty of options to choose from throughout the day.

Step 2: Ningbo Railway Station to Ningbo South Coach Terminal

Upon arrival at Ningbo Railway Station, you’ll need to transfer to the Ningbo South Coach Terminal. Just follow the signs to Ningbo South Coach Terminal. The terminal is located in the South Square of the station and is about a 5-minute walk (approximately 200 meters) away.

  • Directions: Follow the signs to “Ningbo South Coach Terminal” (宁波汽车南站)

Step 3: Bus from Ningbo to Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Pier

From Ningbo South Coach Terminal, you can catch a bus to Zhujiajian Wugongzhi Wharf. The bus ride takes about 1.5 to 2 hours and costs 72 RMB per person. Buses operate from 05:50 to 18:20, with departures every 30 minutes to 1 hour.(All schedule, fares info are subject to changes)
