Shanghai to Hengdian: Direct Trains Now Available

Direct high-speed trains from Shanghai to Hengdian Railway Station (横店站) are running frequently — no more mandatory transfer at Yiwu. The journey takes ~2 hours, down from 2.5–3 hours with a transfer, making a weekend trip to Hengdian World Studios feasible from Shanghai.

Hengdian Railway Station opened on September 6, 2024 as part of the Hangzhou-Wenzhou High-Speed Railway. Initially there were no direct Shanghai trains — that changed with the 2025 timetable, enabled by the new Shanghai-Huzhou-Hangzhou HSR corridor.

  • Journey time: ~2 hours (fastest 1h51min via G7621)
  • Direct trains: 10+ daily, from Shanghai Hongqiao and Shanghai South
  • 2nd class fare: ~¥176–242
  • Departure stations: Shanghai Hongqiao (上海虹桥) and Shanghai South (上海南站 Shanghainan)
  • Destination: Hengdian Railway Station (横店站) — the HSR gateway to China’s Hollywood

Alternative: Transfer via Yiwu (More Frequency)

If the direct trains don’t fit your schedule, the Shanghai → Yiwu → Hengdian connection still works well:

  • Shanghai Hongqiao → Yiwu: ~20+ trains daily, 1.5h, ¥123 (2nd class)
  • Yiwu → Hengdian: 25+ trains daily, ~15 min, ¥22 (2nd class)
  • Total time: ~2.5–3h including transfer, ¥145 total
  • Yiwu to Hengdian is a frequent shuttle — trains run roughly every 30–60 minutes on the Hangzhou-Wenzhou corridor

Getting to Hengdian World Studios from the Station

Hengdian Railway Station is about 9 km from the main studio areas. You have three options:

1. Light Rail (Recommended)

The Jinhua Rail Transit station is built into Hengdian Railway Station (B2 level) — you transfer without exiting the building. The Yidong section (义东段) runs south from Hengdian Railway Station to Ming & Qing Palaces Station in just 1 stop, ~3–5 minutes, ¥2. Ming & Qing Palaces Station drops you directly at the entrance to the largest scenic area.

  • Follow signs for 轨道交通 (rail transit) after the HSR ticket gates
  • Pay with Alipay (Transport → QR code), WeChat Pay, or ticket machines
  • Operating hours: ~6:00–21:30; last train from Ming & Qing Palaces back to Hengdian station departs around 21:00

2. Public Bus

  • Bus 8 (旅游专线): Dedicated tourist shuttle, runs ~6:30–18:00
  • Other routes: 17, K201, K301, K316 also serve the corridor
  • Fare: ¥2 flat (city-wide since January 2025)
  • Journey: ~25–35 minutes depending on traffic

3. Taxi / Didi

  • Journey: ~15–20 minutes to Ming & Qing Palaces entrance
  • Cost: ~¥20–35 via Didi or taxi
  • Designated pick-up area outside the station exit — follow signs for 网约车 or 出租车

Hengdian World Studios: What to See

Hengdian World Studios (横店影视城) is the world’s largest film studio complex — 13 filming bases across 30+ sq km. It’s the filming location for The Untamed (陈情令), Joy of Life (庆余年), Empresses in the Palace, and Nirvana in Fire. Here are the major scenic areas:
